According to the Centers for Disease and Control Road, road related incidents are the leading cause of non-natural death for healthy U.S. citizens residing or traveling abroad, regardless of mode (public or private transit). According to the World Health Organization, the rate of road-related accidents continues to grow amongst foreign visitors.
Despite these statistics Americans can freely drive in 174 countries around the world without any need for understanding local road environments. Today, all that’s necessary to drive abroad is a filled-out $20 application for an international drivers permit.
Taking only a few minutes and a few dollars to learn driving conditions before travelling can teach you something, even a thing or two, that might help you avoid risk and even reduce large and unnecessary expenses (medical, vehicle damage, and driving fines).
As the phrase goes, not investing in prior education is penny wise, pound foolish. We believe Tripiamo is an investment that’s well worthwhile.
Don’t just take our word for it. Check out our customer reviews on any guide page.
What are the costs involved for accidents or fines abroad?
Costs for road accidents can vary but are generally bucketed into three categories: Medical, Property Damage and Traffic Violations.
Medical and Property Damage:
Costs for medical and property damage can range from hundreds to thousands to even tens of thousands of dollars. While private insurers pay about half of all accident costs, individuals still pay on average 26%. Tripiamo provides a preventative measure to help mitigate issues you may have while on the road.
Traffic Violations: In certain markets foreigners are expected to be 3-7 timesmore likely to receive a fine for traffic offenses. Although every country has a different set of rules around speed limits, drunk driving, parking fines, using a cell-phone, not wearing a seatbelt or a helmet and other traffic violations, tickets can vary in a range of fine amounts from just $35 to $750 per ticket across Europe. Receiving a ticket, in some instances, can even revoke driving permits in the future. Tripiamo helps you understand the top reasons foreigners receive fines so you can try and avoid any unexpected costs during your trip.
